One of my dirty little secrets is that I love to read romance novels. Paranormals and urban fantasy are fun. I also love YA romance novels. Lets me relive my youth from the other side. And I guess I must be an anglophile as well because I also like period romances set in England.
When you’re like me and wish you could be have lived life as a girl, romance novels are a pretty cool way to imagine what it would be like.
I’m not sure how it started, but I suspect it was The Princess Diaries. After I saw the movie and was so totally jealous of Anne Hathaway and the Cinderella makeover, I picked up the book. After that I was hooked and read the whole series.
And of course I am a huge Buffy the Vampire slayer fan. So that led to picking up Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series and MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead series about Betsy the queen of the vampires. Whaddya know, those happen to be paranormal romances. Another genre to explore.
Then I got braver and started venturing out further into the romance section. And now I am totally addicted. How often do you get to be the heroine of her own adventure and also get to fall in love?
Thank goodness for romance novels.
